I'm having the exact same problem with my GW. I'll be playing and anywhere between 5 minutes to 2 hours my GW will simply freeze. In the background of the actual game I can see the outline of the GW error report box also. Typically, all I have to do is click where the box is and hit escape and the program will terminate and go back to desktop. By the way...I use ventrilo to talk with friends in GW. I crash with and without ventrilo running in the background.
OS: Windows XP SP2
My comp: AMD 64 FX-55
Gigabyte with nForce 3 chipset (Not too sure what model is atm)
1 gig Corsair PC3200
GeForce 6800 GT
SB Audigy 2 ZS
Let me see...So far I have downloaded SB Audigy beta drivers (crashes before and after change), changed DirectX sound acceleration levels (tried all levels, full to none), updated every other possible driver on my machine, disabled SB and enabled onboard sound which didn't work either (Realtek AC'97), tried defragging, checked my ram, and cried a few times.
I probably left about 30 other steps out, but I thought that would cover the basics. Nothing is overclocked, my power supply is more than sufficient, and these crashes to desktop ONLY happen in Guild Wars. I should also mention that I was crashing two beta events ago, but I had zero problems running it during the beta event before release. I'm starting to think my machine isn't the problem here.
